Alicia Diaz is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist offering behavioral health services to children, adolescents, teens, families and adults with various cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds. She has worked in the social services field for the past 14 years in multiple settings such as in schools, community based mental health agencies, residential programs for unaccompanied minors and community clinics. She is bilingual and fluent in Spanish and English. Alicia has worked hand in hand with those struggling with depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, grief and loss, anger management, motivation, self-esteem, confidence, parenting and interpersonal struggles, providing support to improve her client’s overall well-being. She has experience providing evidence-based practices and specializes working with chronic mental illnesses (i.e., Schizophrenia, Bipolar, Major Depressive Disorder, Anxiety Disorders, OCD), PTSD and psychiatric crisis (suicidal ideation). She has a passion for helping others and possess years of treating symptoms, providing support to improve her client’s overall well-being.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from California State University of Los Angeles. She went on to earn her graduate degree from Pacific Oaks College with a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy, specializing in Latino Family Studies.
Her style is to build a therapeutic alliance in a curious and compassionate matter. Her approach is very client centered and mainly comes from a humanistic and strength-based approach. Alicia has experience providing evidence-based practice such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Focused CBT and Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). She aims to assist clients in tapping into their resilience and strength while developing new tools and strategies for success. Alicia enjoys working with clients to create an environment free from judgment that helps clients grow and gain the coping skills they need to become stronger in the face of life’s hardest challenges. Alicia works to help to develop awareness, foster and build connections between caregivers and child(ren), shift unhelpful patterns, confront fears and adopt healthier habits.
She understands that each individual requires different needs in order to feel empowered in their own unique way and is able to adapt her approach to fit her clients individual and unique perspective. She strives to work with her clients to bring understanding, compassion, empathy and hope, to work towards the client’s well-being, growth, and brighter future, using a client-centered, empathetic and non-judgmental environment. Alicia's goal is to provide an accepting, collaborative, unconditional, and empathetic partnership. She is dedicated to helping clients break free from challenges and would be honored to support them on their journey toward growth and healing. Alicia’s mission is to help individuals confront and overcome their challenges in a compassionate, safe, and effective manner, utilizing evidence-based techniques to empower clients and help them reach their fullest potential, working with her clients to set realistic and measurable goals, allowing them to have autonomy. She meets her clients where they are at in their journey and tailors the therapeutic experience to meet the needs of each person. Her goal is to create a safe space that allows her clients to explore their thoughts and feelings without judgment. Based on the individual goals and needs of each client, she may integrate mindfulness-based interventions, trauma focused therapy, or cognitive behavioral therapy in order to support her client’s healing. Alicia’s goal in her work with her clients is to improve their overall functioning within their day to day life, improve relationships, increase healthy coping skills, and improve overall health.
In her free time, Alicia enjoys time with friends, family, including her husband and daughter, trying new restaurants and travel.
