Maria is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with over 10 years of experience working in the mental health field. Her passion for supporting others stems from her own experiences of overcoming and learning to live with the loss, pain, and confusion of being a first-generation immigrant in the United States, ultimately transforming these challenges into a source of pride and empowerment.
Maria has pursued training to help her better support those who are struggling with depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, family conflict, acculturation, grief, and relationship issues. Maria’s therapeutic approach emphasizes the creation of a safe, therapeutic environment to allow individuals to show up authentically without fear of judgment, supporting them towards self-acceptance and holding accountability for positive change. Maria’s goal in treatment is to help empower others towards healing and personal growth.
In 2015, Maria earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology. She holds a Masters in Counseling from California State University, Fullerton. She has worked in community mental health where she gained experience working with children, young adults and families. She was able to receive trainings in different therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MCBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Functional Family Therapy (FFT), and most recently, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy. She is fluent in English and Spanish.
In her spare time, Maria enjoys spending time with her friends and family who reside in Southern California. She has a passion for baking and is currently in pursuit of the best chocolate chip cookie recipe.
